I accidentally took these Japanese magnolia branches from our neighbor’s tree. She did tell me I was welcome to her camellias, so I may get off on a technicality. I basically did nothing to this photo — they are just that beautiful.

In other news, The Damn Millionaires have started updating their site again. That is delightful to me. Please go there and enjoy their latest guitar riff of the week, which is more like a song, and features my husband and some friends from Enoch’s. It may give you some insight into exactly what it is like for me to live with Vince Chao, who probably recorded this entire thing while a) watching SportsCenter, b) drinking both coffee and a beer, and c) playing fetch with Hank. Also, it’s called “Soultime.” Come on, y’all can’t resist that. Right here.

BRB.

Miss 10 Cent Designer, a dear friend who is also my interior styling and decorating guru (I call her 10 Centor Mentor in my MANY emails to her), has launched a beautiful new site combining all of her blogs -- decorating, photography, food, and general awesomeness. So what are you still doing here? Go! Be fascinated by her many talents, which include the ability to withstand Canadian winters in a swimsuit (you'll see). Happy weekend to y'all! Please take off work early.

My darlings, I have returned from the land of snow and ice (and Mormons). I couldn't have asked for a better Alt Summit experience if I had dreamed it up myself. I am simultaneously super-energized and inspirationalized, but also OH MY GOD SO TIRED. Being awesome for three days straight is hard, y'all. All of the fabulous things I was a part of there -- including an incident involving beer and shots of tequila -- has given me much excitement about the future of design blogs, decorating, and this very website. Also I met a ton of really cute girls with really cute outfits. And by outfits, I mean personalities. HI GIRLS, I LOVE YOU, CALL ME. My delightful roomie is also a fan of the headless picture. I call this photo "Two Cute Girls on A Hideous Sofa." Please note the re-use of my New Year's Eve outfit, now with added sweater. PS, Jaime has awesome hair. The Alt ladies know how to throw a party. Actually, they know how to throw a bunch of parties at once, each with a totally different sponsor/look/whatever. My favorite one, of course, was put on by Kate Spade and the Girls With Glasses Show. Gumballs! Black and white stripes! Pink peonies! If they had added Jonathan Adler and an elephant with clothes on I would have had to lay down and die on the spot. First of all, this is what Salt Lake City looks like when you wake up in the morning. Are you even kidding me? Ridiculous. On Saturday afternoon, having failed to make a decision about what I wanted to do that day, I took a stroll from the hotel to one of SLC's enormous thrift stores. I was hoping to find some buried treasures, like maybe an entire set of Saarinen chairs for $50 or whatever (what?), but I did not. Whatever, Salt Lake thrifting, you lose. I was so disappointed, I had to get one of the super-cute Alt Honda drivers to take me to Sundance so I could lift my spirits with some celebrity sightings. What up, Carmen Electra. Cute girls. I miss them all desperately.

Hello from Park City! I was obviously the hit of Sundance with that country-fried scarf on my head.

In summary: Alt is awesome, so are my new best friends, you should all go next year, do it because I said so, you look very pretty today, THE END.

Y'all know how much I love a good before and after. This one's a doozy. img_0780 We decided a few months ago to re-make our garage -- which had previously been used as storage space for junk and boxes and the occasional darts game -- into a super fun times ping pong and darts room. This project took way longer than I expected it to, but with the help of Vince, our beloved handyman Cowboy, and an amazing carpenter who built the barn doors, here is the garage all dressed up for our New Year's Eve party last weekend: img_2963 Voila! Y'all come over for game night.

[gallery link="file"] I'm so excited to tell you about a new design magazine (in print, yay!) called Anthology. This fabulousness is the brainchild of Anh-Minh Le and Meg Mateo Ilasco, who have done an amazing job putting it all together. We were sworn to secrecy months ago, and it's been killing me, y'all. Chao Camp and Friends are featured in one of the inaugural issue's stories, and we are super happy about that. We were also super happy to meet and hang out with our new best friends, writer Holly Crawford, photographer Jen Siska, and stylist Mrs. Lilien, when we shot the story one (legendary) weekend in June. So go! Look! Subscribe! Yay! PS. There's also a post about Anthology today on Design Sponge that features the cutest stop-motion video ever.

Oh my goodness, it's been a banner week here at Chao Central. First of all, the temperature has dropped below 75 at least 3 times. Secondly, one of my favorite blogs, Creature Comforts, did a super sweet post on our house. THIRD OF ALL, I will be doing a guest post on one of my OTHER favorite blogs (Karly and Erin, what what!) very very soon. FINALLY, and this is going to blow your mind, I am a finalist in this All The Best Bedroom Contest. I mean, how sick are you of hearing about my bedroom? I know, me too. However. Not only is it an honor to be chosen, but your favorite and mine, the crazy awesome Kelly Wearstler, is one of the judges. This makes me squee. A lot. Y'all, the other contestants are so good. They are obviously professionals. So I cannot even tell you how happy it made me to find out I was in the top 12. As a bonus, there is a Reader's Choice poll you should go vote in. (For me.) (I mean, you don't have to. Only if you want to.) (Dewit.) Talk about an embarrassment of riches. I am the luckiest girl in the blogosphere!!!!!!1! And now, here are 2 more pictures of my bedroom. YAY! bedroom1 bedroom2
