And now, presenting this year's Fall Uniform. It's a little different than the Elegant Cowgirl of past seasons. I'm going a little more monochromatic, a little more edgy, a little more... COLD. I'm really into the slouchy-pantsed, layered look that's happening. Also: short dresses, tights, wool socks, and boots. Because now I live in Canadia.

Vince Paper Leather Scuba Jacket

I am also yearning for a leather jacket. Here is my money-is-no-object pick. If you are my rich uncle, please get in touch. I'd also take this one. It's on "sale."

Hello, gentlemen of the Internet! I am back with another helpful roundup of basic staples for your wardrobe. Last time we talked about OUTERWEAR. Today we are going to look at some basic tees and shirts you should have in your wardrobe. As ever, these can be mixed and matched with all of the other basics we've discussed thus far. A button-up with a hoodie and/or denim jacket? YES. A striped tee with a classic tailored blazer? SIGN ME UP.

1. James Perse White Crewneck Jersey T-shirt / 2. G Star CL Hugh Striped Crew / 3. Gant Varsity Cardigan Sweater / 4. J. Crew Selvedge Chambray Utility Shirt / 5. Shipley & Halmos Stripe Polo / 6. Steven Alan Reverse Seam Shirt / 7. J. Crew Merino Half-zip Sweater / 8. Yohji Yamamoto Sailor Striped Henley / 9. J. Crew Cashmere V-neck Sweater

Now, obviously, you don't have to have ALL of these. But a nice solid tee, a button-up shirt, and a half-zip sweater will take you everywhere, in my book. You could get by really well with just those three items. However, I cannot think of a hotter thing than a nicely-fitted striped polo. And that chambray work shirt is a classic, and looks good with everything, so if you don't want to be classically amazingly dressed, you should skip it. (What I am saying is, buy it now.) Also, a loose-fitting striped henley? CAN YOU GO WRONG WITH THAT? I ask you.

Next time we will talk about bottoms -- pants, jeans, shorts, and the like. In the meantime, take yourself shopping for these items. You deserve it! And the world deserves to see you dressed so well.

J. Crew Fatigue Jacket / J. Crew Denim Jacket / Penfield Stapleton Vest / American Giant Hoodie / J. Crew Ludlow Sportcoat / Lands' End Chambray Shirt

A while back, my delightful friend Erik asked me to do a roundup especially for guys, since he is interested in looking good, but is somewhat sartorially challenged. So naturally, it took me three months to get to it. I'm going to post several roundups regarding dudes and what I like to see on them, so pay attention, guys who read this site. Yes, all three of you.

First up: Outerwear! I find if you have just a couple of these essentials, you can mix, match, dress them up or down, wear them together or alone, or any which way but loose. My personal fave is the high-low mix of chambray shirt or denim jacket + sport coat. Is that what they call them these days? Is the word "blazer"? I am eighty-seven years old.

Anyway: Enjoy! More to come soon. And, Erik: You are welcome and I take payment in the form of Bulleit bourbon. THANKS.

I created this outfit mainly so I could tell y'all that Uniqlo now has an online shop. I was just at the actual store last week, and they didn't have that black vest in my size, but guess what? I can order it now. And so can you!

It is very, very cold in our drafty old house, so I am all ready for turtlenecks and hats, and down vests in my size. PS, I have a version of those Madewell oxfords, and they are still going strong after over two years. A worthy investment, I'd say.

Thanks for all the good ideas and well-wishes over the weekend. I am feeling tons better, and can almost turn my head all the way to the left. Heh.

I'm going to need you to send me all of these. Thanks!

I really, really want those navy tights for the holidays. They would be so good with a little shift dress and some sparkly shoes. Also, I'll take the orange ones. And the legs on the model. Find them here: 1 / 2 / 3.

Y'all, I am really into tassels and poofy accessories right now. If I could have an entire dress made of the tassels on that bracelet, I would wear it EVERY DAY. I am pretty sure this is all Mrs. Lilien's fault -- her love for the tassel is known far and wide.

Anyway, please enjoy these five accessories that I am endeavoring to add to my wardrobe for fall. I think they would add a nice punch to the Elegant Cowgirl uniform. (Although my secret goal is obviously to accrue enough poufs to fashion one of these hair concoctions on my own.)

How great are these knit crocheted hats? The ear ones are obviously cute for Halloween, but I would wear the hood ones all year round. They are very Drew Barrymore in Grey Gardens, yes? I will need to have these on hand for the next time I am Edie Beale.

Find them all here. (The shop also sells patterns! Fun times.)
